Trayce Walker's five shutout innings were plenty for the Blue Devils.
Trayce Walker pitched a five-inning complete game and the Blue Devils got the bats rolling in the second inning for a 10-0 victory over visiting Westmoreland in District 9-AA Tuesday.
A four-run second gave Walker all the support he needed and more, and the junior pitcher allowed just two hits and walked none while striking out seven. He is now 1-1 on the season with a 2.47 ERA.
Senior Aussie Light continued to lead the team in hitting and broke out in a big way, going 3-for-3 with three RBI, including the walk-off two-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning to force the mercy rule.
Greg Hale was 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs batted in, while Jeffery Bennett was 1-for-4 with two RBI. Nat Rogers went 1-for-3 and drove in a run and Travis Brown was 2-for-3 with a run-scoring single and double for two RBI. Derek Conquest and Brandon Newton also had hits and Newton scored two runs.
White House hit .458 as a team for the game and was aggressive at the plate and on the basepaths. The Blue Devils did not make an error, walk or hit a batter or allow a stolen base on defense. The Eagles had just two base runners.
Westmoreland will host the Blue Devils (6-4, 2-0) on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. to makeup Monday’s rain out.
JV - White House 8, Westmoreland 3
The Blue Devils junior varsity picked up a second consecutive win with an 8-3 victory over Westmoreland at home Tuesday.
Matthew Leach (1-0) pitched four innings and allowed two unearned runs and Harley Duncan came in for the fifth inning, allowing one unearned run to score and close the game for White House.
The bats got going in the first inning as John Hoesli drew a walk and stole second, then Dylan Brinn singled to right field to send him home. Leach doubled down the left field line for an RBI, then Chris Mullins scored on a passed ball to make it 3-0.
Westmoreland got two runs back but the Blue Devils extended the lead in the bottom of the third. Zack Escue and Zach Morris drove home a run each and Duncan put the ball in play and reached on an error up the middle to score another and make it 6-3. Jesse Lempicki’s base hit put the final two runs home for an 8-2 edge. Westmoreland added a run in the final frame and the game was called to time limit.
White House will compete in the junior varsity tournament this weekend at White House starting Thursday with a doubleheader versus Gallatin and Beech.
White House is 2-4 for the season. The Blue Devils picked up an 8-7 win over Gallatin Saturday when Escue hit a grand slam to rally White House back from a 4-0 deficit.

White House and WH - Heritage battled to a 0-0 draw in the first-ever meeting between the two boys' soccer programs. Both teams played hard, but could not find a way to finish. Players and fans remembered Kelsie Trobaugh by wearing lime green, and a moment of silence was observed before the game.
