Traveling to Nashville Christian School to face the Eagles in basketball is never an easy task. Small gym, loud fans right on top of the court - it's a claustrophobic place for visiting teams. Heritage scratched out two tough victories Friday night, with both teams delivering from the free throw line in the clutch.

Team Kempo wins more national titles than any other team in the nation.

National Champions Team Kempo

When the tournament season ended, USA Kenpo Karate and Fitness competition team, “Team Kenpo,” they had accomplished an unbelievable feat, winning more national championships than any other compotition team in the Professional Sports Karate Association.

The team traveled to Cincinnati, OH. for the Professional Sports Karate Association National Championship Honors Bouquet on October 24.

Martial artists from all over the country competed in three separate divisions. These divisions consist of a weapons form, an open hand form and sparring. Each member competes against other martial artists of the same age and belt rank. Points are accumulated throughout the year.  These points represent where an individual finishes after every tournament. A Finalist, Double Crown and Triple Crown championships are handed out at the end.

Team Kenpo members Buffy Escue, Alex Sharp, Daniel and Scott Wrenn won all three of their respective divisions. Winning a single championship is difficult; winning all three is rarer still. This is Daniel’s second time winning a triple crown.

Team Kenpo also had two double crown winners in Brad Howell and Brieanna Johnson, both winning in forms and sparring.

A few other members won national championships in a single division: Jillian Wrenn in forms, Samantha Hale & Connor Lesjek in sparring, and old timer Jerry Scheel won the senior men’s division in sparring.

Team Kenpo’s honorable finalists: Derrick Pierson, Grace Mena, Brent Howell, Chris Jerde, Silas Terry, Morgan Escue, Shane Jerde and Dakota Slate.

Team Kenpo‘s Sparring team includes Daniel Wrenn, Derrick Pierson, Dakota Slate, Grace Mena and Connor Lesjek - all defended the title and trophy as the championship sparring team for the 2009.

Through many highs and lows of the season, Team Kenpo was determined to come out on top.  The perseverance proved to be an accomplishment that many only wish to achieve!
